Edexcel International GCSE Biology Course Overview¶
Revision notes organised by course overview, topic-area hubs, topic pages, practical reference pages and cross-topic syntheses.
Scope¶
- Qualification: Pearson Edexcel International GCSE in Biology
- Qualification code:
4BI1 - This overview covers the full course, including Topics
1to5, the boldBcontent, mathematical expectations and suggested practical investigations
Assessment Shape¶
The course is examined through two written papers taken across the full five-topic course. The longer paper covers the shared route that all students study. The shorter paper can also test the extra Biology-only depth statements marked in the specification. Because both papers may draw from any topic area, it is better to revise Topics 1 to 5 as one connected course than as isolated paper-only blocks.
For reference, Paper 1 (4BI1/1B) lasts 2 hours, carries 110 marks and accounts for 61.1% of the qualification, while Paper 2 (4BI1/2B) lasts 1 hour 15 minutes, carries 70 marks and accounts for 38.9%. Across the two papers, question styles include multiple choice, short-answer items, calculations and extended responses. Experimental skills are assessed through written examinations rather than through a separate practical paper.
