Ventilation Mechanism¶
Use this interactive to compare inhalation and exhalation in one thorax diagram so rib movement, diaphragm shape, pressure change and air movement stay linked.
What This Diagram Does Not Show¶
- This is a simplified quiet-breathing model, not a full anatomical drawing of the lungs, pleural membranes or chest wall.
- The point is the linked pattern: ribcage up and out with a flatter diaphragm lowers pressure and draws air in; the reverse pattern raises pressure and pushes air out.
- Use it for normal breathing mechanics. It is not trying to model exercise breathing, exact tissue detail or every structure in the thorax.
