Leaf Cross-Section

Use this interactive to select the main tissues in a leaf cross-section and connect each one to its role in photosynthesis, gas exchange and transport.

What This Diagram Does Not Show

  • This model is designed to show which tissues are present in a leaf, not to draw every cell with full biological detail.
  • Some cell shapes and internal structures are simplified, so the diagram should not be treated as a microscope-accurate view.
  • Palisade cells are shown mainly to highlight chloroplasts in this context. Real palisade cells would also contain other organelles such as a large vacuole, a nucleus and mitochondria.
